Steel Framing

Steel studs are generally used in commercial projects but many people are using them for home improvement and remodeling. If your planning on doing a basement remodel you may want to consider steel studs because they are moisture tolerant and generally a bit cheaper than wood.

Here are a few benefits of steel studs and joists.

1. Steel has a higher strength to weight ratio than wood.

2. Steel studs will not crack, split or warp.

3. Steel studs will not contract or expand sue to settling.

4. Steel studs are immune to insects, rodents, termites, fungi and mold.

5. Steel studs may reduce damage due to fire, earthquakes or disaters.

6. Steel pricing is generally a bit more stable than wood pricing and often a bit cheaper.

Many contractors are using steel framing in residential design build projects as they are realizing the benefits of steel over wood framing.

Commercial projects normally call for steel framing with a minimum of 20 guage steel to meet building safety and fire codes.
