Using the right products

There are many building products to choose from and you want to make sure you get the most for your money. Choosing the right materials and supplies can not only save you money, but headaches down the road.

First do some research on the product and manufacturer, check the track record online and be proactive. Sometimes you can get a deal at some bargain suppliers, but worry about warranty and replacement if something does go bad.

Lowes and Home Depot generally carry everything that you would ever need for a home improvement project and then some. There are differences in their stock, so be aware of quality and ask about the products directly.

Specialty products such as windows and doors for example can be ordered through your local home improvement center. You may want to consult the yellow pages or online sources to get a feel for the products that are available and you may even get a great deal. Most online vendors are pretty internet savvy and will respond to most of your inquiries.
